From experience working with computers we know how frustrating it can be trying to work on a computer that is very slow and even more so on one that will not boot up to Windows. Viruses can cause both of these to occur, depending on the exact virus you have. Anti-Virus software can be installed so that we can remove any viruses and/or malware that is lurking on your machine to get it back upto speed.

Some forms of viruses, known as Trojan Horses can cause serious security issues on not only your computer but over the whole network you are connected to, sometimes letting the person(s) behind the virus gaining access to your person details including bank details if you bank online or even if you don't and have the details stored on your computer! it is very dangerous to have a machine connected to the Internet that is infected with a Trojan Horse of any kind. Sometimes they can be used in a way that forms part of an attack to a web server, usually a company or forums in an attempt to bring it down, using either all of the bandwidth available or commonly maxing out the server's resources such as CPU time and Memory causing the server to have to use the page file, making the website very slow for anyone trying to access or even knocking the host offline all together! Key loggers may be on your computer where by every key stroke made is logged in a text file and then e-mailed to the person who infected the computer!

Viruses that cause the computer to not boot into Windows are usually boot sector viruses and require the hard drive to be completely formatted - zero'd out so that there isn't any chance that the virus can still be there when Windows is re-installed.
